How Australia Got Its Name

Image
A Map Of Australia Made In 1804 By Matthew Flinders I’ll bet not too many people from Oz know this story. I certainly didn’t. I learned about it from reading the most excellent book, Napoleon’s Australia by Terry Smyth . Because I only ever research excerpts of books and articles, I almost never read a whole book, but this one is special. It details the well-developed plans France had to attack and take over Sydney in the early 1800’s. Betcha’ didn’t know that either. Now who knows what Australia was known as in the same time period? It was either ‘ Terra Australis ’ or ‘ New Holland ’ (because the Dutch had explored it first). Not Australia; no that was the work of one single extraordinary man. Who was it and what does it have to do with “Life Cycles Theory” ?? Who was the first to circumnavigate the country? Most of us locals know the answer is the famous explorer Matthew Flinders (with the exception of those who are shamefully no longer taught Au

The Day That Made Mother Teresa

Image
All biographies of this world-famous Catholic nun, mention one specific day in which she, in effect, became Mother Teresa without realising it at the time. One mind-numbing moment in time. A flash of religious inspiration, that she claims came directly from God. Why does this interest me so much? What does it have to do with “Life Cycles Theory” and does it somehow link my work directly to a religious cause?? OK, now here’s the theory. For many of the public personalities I study the central age 36 “Year of Revolution” contains life and career-defining events, that can come to literally split a person’s life in two, in one mind-numbing moment of one day. It sounds a bit crazy and no-one else has ever come close to describing a similar finding, but that’s what it is. I have many, many examples of this. So how does this measure up to the day the nun who worked in India, in effect, became ‘Mother Teresa’? She was born August 26th, 1910 so the year in question is Aug, 1946

MOLLY'S GAME AND NEIL'S GAME

Image
I want to tell you a story, within a story, within a story, about the new movie called Molly's Game . It's a largely true story about Molly Bloom , the girl who changed from a would-be Olympic skier into the so-called "Poker Princess", who ran the most exclusive high-stakes underground poker game in the world, in both LA and New York, in the mid-to-late 2000's to early 2010's. But before I do, I just want to say that Texas Hold 'em poker is also my game, as I have played it since 2004 and have been both a tournament winner and game host. I run a twice weekly game at my local club these days and it is practically the only independent game left in Sydney. Everything else is run by large organisations, who take a rake of the winnings. Interestingly, I both run and play in the game and despite people thinking poker is mostly just luck (80%) and skill (20%), I can assure you that it's the other way around. I play by a set structure and have consist

The Enigma Of Occam's Razor

Hello again. Welcome to the newly created second edition of this blog. My intention with this was always to examine more material about "Life Cycles Theory" itself as well as to critique other systems and theories in this general area (like astrology/numerology/synchronicity etc). Sometimes I use related posts from the other blogs to look at a series of articles (like 'The Google Story' parts 1/2/3, or the Carly Simon 'Who's So Vain' series). My guiding principle is that you never quite know what to expect. With all this in mind, I'm currently doing a series of articles set in the middle ages and this will slot neatly into it. It will also slot neatly into material on the nature of the theory itself, as well as asking the ultimate question. Intrigued? Well, you should be. This article is dedicated to my very good friend Yun Yi, who runs several fascinating and informative blogs such as "Human Without God". She's one of my favourites.
